Last week I shared fall fashion must-haves that I am currently loving this season. I enjoy a good statement piece but I’m normally one to buy clothes that will last a couple of years. You can easily save money with closet staples to make a versatile wardrobe and allow you to get creative pairing tons of outfits with only a few pieces. Here are my top closet staples for fall and I will be sharing how to style many of these pieces throughout the season. Below I linked exact and similar pieces to shop all Fall 2020 Closet Staples.
TOPS
1. Layering pieces – Early fall can bring warm and cool temps in the same day so I like to wear sweater tanks and lightweight tops that can be paired with jackets and cardigans. Solid colored tops, mostly black or white, are great so you can style your outer wear with a pattern or statement color.
2. Tunics – A tunic or longer fitting top is great for fall because leggings in all styles become a common wear for me in the colder months. A chambray top is always a staple because it is one of the most versatile pieces to have in your closet. My favorite colors to pair with chambray are black and khaki.
3. Sweaters – It wouldn’t be fall without an oversized, neutral sweater. Brown tones (camel, beige and rust) are so great for October and November because they usually complement the fall scenery. A great feature for sweaters are they can be easily paired with business pants for work or jeans for a night out on the town.

OUTER WEAR
1. Jackets – I always consider my outer wear as a part of my entire outfit. Since jackets are usually more of an investment and are worn more than the average tee I chose two versatile and durable jackets. A utility jacket is great for a chilly or rainy day and the popular green goes well with fall colors. The classic denim jacket can be worn at work, at church, out and about, literally anywhere. I have 5 different colored denim jackets but if you are just getting started the medium wash is a solid choice that would go with lots of colors and textures.
2. Blazers – A power blazer makes all of the difference when creating a put together look. When you think of a blazer you might initially think of a job interview or conference but that is not the case any more. Longer length blazers with scrunched sleeves are the go-to when you are aiming for a polished look. A solid blazer is a good piece to pull for a presentation at work or a night out with the girls.
3. Cardigans – THE staple piece for all seasons but fall is really the time for them to shine. Cardigans allow you to add texture and color to your outfit without the harsh structure of a jacket. An oversized fit, cable knit is great for the cooler fall days and longer styles are good for a simple but statement worthy look.

1. Business – Black dress pants are a classic for work, especially for a quick outfit paring if you are in a rush. Old Navy’s Pixie Pants are the best business pants because they are comfy but also more flattering then your typical pair of straight leg dress pants. A grey pencil skirt works for a more fitted work look and seamlessly transitions into winter. This paired with a black blazer can be a great business professional look.
2. Everyday – Jeans and joggers are the perfect everyday look when you are out shopping or getting together with friends. Dark skinny jeans are a must-have for fall and go great with lighter colored sweaters and cardigans. Joggers have become popular this year and can be dressed up with a blouse and denim jacket or down with a graphic tee and sneakers.
3. Casual – Leggings… need I say more! From athletic fit and style to faux leather leggings there are so many possible outfit options. A few months ago I shared Six Ways to Style Faux Leather Leggings from casual to dressy. They are a solid investment for fall and can transition into winter as well. Athletic fitting or everyday leggings can be nice for quick runs to the grocery store or working from home.

SHOES
1. Tall Boots – A pair of cognac colored tall boots are the ultimate fall fashion staple. I love the ones with a smaller heels so they can be worn to work or around town. Black suede boots are a statement piece with any outfit. Over the knee boots have become popular and these shown have a heel for a dressier look which can be worn with a skirt or jeans.
2. Booties – When I’m looking for a dressier look but I’m not quite wanting to wear a tall boot I will reach for my booties. A taupe bootie with a heel can go with jeans or leggings. These sneaker wedges shown are great for a more casual outfit when you are still wanting some height to your look. They are perfect when you want a comfy shoe but also are looking for a bit of a lift.
3. Loafers – My go-to shoe for work wear are loafers and mules. They are a more mature approach to the ballet flat and give off a professional vibe. Mules have become very popular within the last couple of years and I love to have a pair with animal print, like the cheetah ones here. They can liven up an outfit or let you show some personality in your more professional looks for the office.

ACCESSORIES
In the Fall most looks have multiple layers with the top and maybe a cardigan or jacket so there is no need to overdo it with lots of jewelry. Here I shared a simple pair of earrings and designer bracelet dupes that would match most outfits. A light or dark camel color fedora is a rising fall trend this season. From denim to leggings it is a good outfit finisher if you are looking to add a bit of personality. A scarf is my favorite accessory for fall because you can add colors and patterns to your look with this piece. Tortoise shell style shades are perfect to always keep in your purse because they go with so many different looks.
