Inspiring creativity + confidence in your wardrobe
After Thanksgiving all of my fashion choices are centered around winter and Christmas! I’ve been waiting to pull out my cold weather gear and with the temperatures dropping down to the 30s this week, I think it is finally time. My winter fashion is mostly layering so I wanted to share my favorite fall to winter closet pieces. These are my top four wardrobe staples for the season that are also the most versatile and affordable.
Riding boots have always been a staple for fall and winter. The best style of tall boots to match multiple outfits are simple leather ones or ones with a quilted pattern. A small block heeled boot is great for different occasions and is comfortable, which is always essential for me in a shoe. They can be paired with leggings, skirts and dresses but my favorite are skinny jeans. Tall, riding boots are easy to dress up or down and by far the best closet staple for winter shoes.
A plaid, flannel top is a cute way to make an outfit festive for the holidays. Classic Christmas color plaid shirts, like this one, are great for this time of year. Red and black buffalo plaid patterns are also very popular and are easy to pair with black accessories. A button-up flannel is a good piece to layer with as well, they go great under sweaters and cardigans as the temperature drops throughout the season.
I’ve linked this pattern and a few of my favorites that are currently on sale.
I have found a stylish hybrid between a pullover and a light jacket – an anorak jacket. The fit of this jacket has a bungee like feature at the waist to give it a fitted look. It is also lightweight making it great for layering, especially with the unexpected warmer days in the South. The style of most anorak jackets seem to be the same but this one specifically has a leopard design inside, which give it some personality.
I’ve linked this exact jacket below which is currently under $20. All of them have a design inside the jackets – the black and pink a leopard print and the green and grey have a camo print.
The best layering piece for fall and winter weather is a quilted vest. Earlier in the year I shared 5 Ways to Style a Quilted Vest. Vests are my go-to when I want to match outer wear with my outfit but don’t want to wear a coat or jacket all day. I have quilted vests in four different colors – black, navy, grey and white – because they are so easy to mix and match with tunics and sweaters.
Below are a few quilted vests linked with a similar pattern and are all on sale for $15.
All four pieces are sure to give you the foundation for many simple and cute outfits this season. Throughout the season I plan to share multiple outfit options for these pieces to maximize your wardrobe, so stay tuned!
Warmly, Emily
