Today I’m going to switch it up a bit as this post is different than my normal fashion and outfit inspiration posts. My faith is the most important thing in my life and I recently realized I haven’t shared much with you in that aspect of my life. If 2020 has taught me anything, it’s that so many things can change in an instant and the only constant in life is Jesus. Since he gets me through all of the hills and valleys of my life I want to talk about and share my journey in full transparency.
Side note – you might see me reference JC quite often, just know that I am talking about Jesus Christ and not JC Chasez from *NSYNC! #millennial
I’ve been working from home since March and by about week three I dropped my daily routine like it was hot. Prior to quarantine I had a solid morning schedule of waking up around 5:30am, working out and having my quiet time (devotional time) while eating breakfast. As soon as I started working from home I put off working out and would skip my daily devotion. You would think spending more time at home would allow me to add more things to my plate but I ended up putting things off and getting pretty lazy.
Once school started back a few weeks ago, mid to late August, I realized… girl you need to get your butt in gear. Truly it has felt like I am retraining my body to get back in the groove of my healthy habits with the most important one being spending time with JC. I have found myself for the past few weeks being able to focus more on my quiet time and actually talk with God which is probably due to the fact that things move a little slower these days. Prayer to me feels more like a conversation than a chore, which has been freeing.
One thing that has helped me focus on growing in my relationship with the Lord has been my devotional book. It speaks to my soul every single day. No matter what I am struggling with or going through I feel like the words for the day were written specifically for me. The book I use is – Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace In His Presence by Sarah Young. It is a 365 daily devotional that focuses on a different key lesson. I have used this book for the last 3 to 4 years and it continues to be relevant everyday.
I love this book and it serves as an awesome guide for the day but I know that it is the constant communication with JC that makes the words relate to my life. The foundation of creating that communication, for me, has been having a quiet time. I am still growing, still learning and by no means have it all figured out but wanted to share what has made a difference in my faith walk. If you are looking for a great place to start growing in your relationship with Christ, grab a simple devotion book, read with intention and talk it out with the Lord. The more you talk with him like it’s a conversation and less of a chore the more you will be open to hearing what he has to say.
